Venom’s first film reception has two sides. One side being the critics, not very pleased with the film. Henced it’s 35 out of 100 on Metacritic. The other side being moviegoers leaving the theater with big giant grins. Giving the viewer score on Metacritic a 6.2 out of 10.  Love or hate the film, it’s getting a sequel and there many who are excited. However, no one seems to be more excited than Andy Serkis. He was recently confirmed to be directing Venom 2 and he can’t contain his enthusiasm.

Andy Serkis spoke to a couple of reporters at the TCA summer press tour about Venom 2. He didn’t give any info about the film’s plot, but he did have this to say:

It’s a fantastic franchise and I’m honored to be asked to direct it. It feels like a very contemporary story, and I think, hopefully, that it’s going to be an extraordinary piece of cinema. I can’t tell you any ideas right now, I’m in the beginning stages, but I have some very clear ideas about what I want to see visually, and how we can take the characters to another dimension.

The director boasts that the film’s writer, Kelly Marcel, is working hard on the film’s plot with some input from Tom Hardy. Andy Serkis also express great excitement to be finally working with Tom Hardy.

I’ve known Tom for years, and admired him as an actor and a producer. And we’ve wanted to work together for years.

Venom 2 has no set release date. The film will star Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, and Michelle Williams as Anne Weying. Rumor has it that the sequel villain will be Marvel’s most deranged psychopath, Carnage.
